Can You Imagine Us Years From Today?

Marcia and Lydia are college students who've been friends for almost seven years. We both love to blog, so Marcia suggested we start a joint blog. We'll be having an ongoing dialogue, where one of us will ask the other a deep (or not so deep) question, and the other will respond. Then the responder will ask the next question, in a reciprocal circle of wittiness and wisdom. Anyone else who is intrigued by our questions and wants to respond can do so in the comments.

The Meaning of Life

Ok Mar, here it is. The first Really Deep Question.

Last night James and I watched Monty Python's The Meaning of Life. While it was highly entertaining (I do recommend it if you have not yet seen it, have you? Lots of sex), I was a bit disappointed. The meaning of life, according to them, is, "Uh, try and be nice to people, avoid eating fat, read a good book every now and then, get some walking in, and try and live together in peace and harmony with people of all creeds and nations."

What do you make of this? Sadly I think they are right. Life just seems so long sometimes, for that to be all... like there should be something we all have to accomplish or discover. I can't get my head around only being 20. I just keep asking, "What next? What else do I have to do?" Just wondering your thoughts, it obviously doesn't have to be anything profound. And take your time.

At 5:03 PM, mattm said...: Ladies, I think you'll find that in Douglas Adam's "So Long and Thanks for All the Fish" (the final book in the Hitchikers Guide to the Galaxy series) the meaning of life is identified as 42. Which isn't a great consolation for a 43 year old.

I'm 21 years old. I'm taking a semester off of college to (it's cliched, I know) "find myself." I'm a liberal Democrat, a single gal, and a social butterfly. I'm an intellectual, but after three semesters of college, have wound up (temporarily, at least) hating school. I've got a kick ass internship, though, and will be going back in the fall to start my way to a poli sci/history double major, so things are starting to look up on the scholarly front!
